My mind is in the gutter again
Since the gutters are leaking, again.
The gutter business must be REALLY good right now. I spent a lot of time looking around, but it’s hard to get companies to even call you back. Of course I’d like any place I use to be licensed, bonded and insured. (I check for that here: https://fortress.wa.gov/lni/bbip/). Some recommendations would be really nice, but those are hard to come by. I found some for a place in Seattle, but the owner didn’t want to cross the bridge.
Larry Haight (http://www.larryhaight.com) had done a decent job on a friend’s roof, and had a good ServiceMagic rating. It took a while, but they finally got an estimator out. He was very friendly and knowledgeable–and sounded like he’d really be out to do the work. I had a good feeling about it. He said he’d turn in the paperwork, and somebody would call me with a quote. Then came 2 months of phone tag and unanswered emails. I did get a call once as I was leaving, and I know they had a guy break a leg…but I never did get a quote! If it’s that hard to talk to them when I’m trying to hire them, I can only imagine what it would be like to get a problem fixed. So I gave up.
Then I found CR Gutters (http://www.crguttersinc.com/). No recommendations, but they checked out with the state, have been around a long time, and were very responsive via email. The owner came out and gave us a quote. We would have felt great about going with her.
But we remembered that Legacy Roofing (they did our roof four years ago: http://www.legacyroofing.com/) did gutters. They weren’t exactly cheap, but had done a great job. Their bid ended up being about the same as CR’s for a system I liked better (continuous thick-guage aluminum, heavy-duty hidden hangars with screws).
They just finished putting them up yesterday. They started when they had said they would, the workers were nice and polite, they cleaned up almost everything (we did find a few things lying about), and the gutters look good. Of course, the old ones looked OK–so now I’m waiting for rain to see how they do.
